★ so what is an on-demand poet?
As an on-demand poet, I go to events and offer poems to boutique poems to people! However, what makes on-demand poetry special is that the poems are tailored to each person: their life, their history, their priorities and their likes and loves. The delivery may vary - I am sometimes in character as a faerie, a bard, or a vampire - but the essence of the service never changes, everyone who interacts gets to walk away with a little piece of human-made art, picked out or written just for them!
★ what kind of events can you do?
Almost any kind! On-demand poetry works well at intimate private events like weddings or birthdays, but most of what I do revolves around public live events! I have done in-character typewriter and walkaround poetry at family festivals, book balls, and renaissance events, as well as alternative art fairs for the goth community. I have also offered the same service, sans the fantastical character work, at book and craft fairs, or as a companion to daytime discos. Lastly, I have done mini "residencies" at indipendent cafes, record stores, and bookshops.
★ what kind of services do you offer?
☆ Typewriter Poetry
Typewriter poetry is exactly what it sounds like! I set up in a space, and passers-by can appraoch for a short conversation about what they'd like their poem to be about. They then walk away and return a few minutes later, and are presented with a completely one-of-a-kind poem, written in the moment, for them to keep! This can either be done on a tipping basis, or offered for free, depending on the event preferences.
☆ Walkaround In-Character Poetry
Walkaround Poetry works a little differently! In character as a faerie, bard, pirate, vampire or other (depending on the event!) I lead passers-by through a fantastical, gamefied process, allowing them to "build" a poem like a spell, by choosing from various options. Once they have built their spell, they are given a pre-written but unique poem. This is a great fit for renaissance faires and larps, but also works for music festivals and other summer events with room for whimsy!
